Current fuel cell vehicles are prototypes and not for retail sale. When fuel cell vehicles are on the market, CaFCP members believe they will be priced competitive to today’s vehicles. Like the first hybrid cars, they may have a small surcharge for the new technology. Also like the hybrids, the government may issue tax credits.
Eight automakers are working on fuel cell vehicles. You’ll have a choice of makes and models when they are ready for the commercial market.
Transit agencies are already purchasing fuel cell buses. Although they are more expensive than conventional buses, the second generation buses cost half the price of the first generation. Our transit members believe that cost of ownership of a fuel cell bus will soon be competitive with conventional buses.
