At first glance, fuel cell vehicles look like their internal combustion engine counterparts. They do, however, have some differences under the hood. A fuel cell vehicle is an electric vehicle that makes electricity from hydrogen. They do not burn fuel nor rely only on a battery for power.
- Fuel cell vehicles are virtually silent except for the occasional hum of the air compressor.
- The vehicles have great acceleration and energy efficiency. Like all electric vehicles, FCVs have maximum torque at zero miles per hour.
- FCVs are zero emission vehicles. Only a puff of water vapor emits from the tailpipe. (Some of the vehicles don’t even have tailpipes.)
Like today’s cars and trucks, fuel cell vehicles meet safety standards for passenger vehicles. |
